This month we continue to spotlight our members who are making a mark and leaving their footprints in the church and in our community. We’re delighted to honor Sis. Gina Goosby-Harris, our first female Board of Trustee member in the history of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
Sis. Gina proudly states, “My spiritual walk with Christ has been a lifelong journey rooted in faith, service, and obedience. Born and raised in Kashmere Gardens, as the eldest of three daughters of Bro. Adell and Sis. Geraldine Goosby, I have been a devoted and lifelong member of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church for 65 years, worshipping and studying under Pastors A.A. McCardell, Dr. C. L. Jackson & Dr. Sheldon L. Jackson. My spiritual growth has been cultivated through consistent worship, study of God’s Word, and active participation in ministry, allowing my faith to mature
into servant leadership.”
She started on her mission of service as a junior usher and has been a member of the Choir since 1977. She is now the Youth Choir Director and President, a position she has held for over 35 years. Many of us fondly remember all the bus outings she organized and the trips we made all over the country to visit historical and national treasures. Sis. Gina is also a member of our digital media group, DM3.
Sis. Gina retired from the city of Houston after 38 years of service. During that time, she held the positions of System Analyst, Project Manager and HR Manager of Personnel and Payroll. Leadership is a hallmark of Sis. Gina’s life and is evident as we look at the positions she holds in various organizations:
- 24-year member, past Chairman, and current Director: Houston Livestock Show
and Rodeo, - Appointed member of the Educational Contributions and Review Committee:
Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo - Assistant Treasurer & current BOD: Priority Trust Credit Union
- Treasurer: Member of Order of the Eastern Star- (OES) – Electa #288
- Founding Member and Chaplain: Black Women Making A Difference (BWMAD)
- Current President and BOD: Mt. Royal Village/Royal Crest Subdivision HOA
- Treasurer & BOD: Association of Retiree Houston Municipal Employees (ARHME)
In addition to occupying a leadership role in various organizations, Sis. Gina is also a business owner. The owner and founder of GG’s Unlimited-Catering & Wedding Consultant.
She proclaims, “Through my professional and personal life, I have grown to understand that my calling extends beyond belief to intentional discipleship. I strive to reflect Christ in my actions through serving youths, seniors and my community, and leading with grace, patience and a heart for people. Christ remains my anchor and source of strength, shaping my purpose and fueling my desire to be a vessel for God’s glory. My faith is expressed through dedicated action and leadership.”
In her leisure time, Sis. Gina enjoys cooking, as well as watching and attending football games.
To accomplish all her achievements, Sis. Gina leans on Isaiah 40:28-31, “Hast thou not known? Hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? There is no searching of his understanding. He giveth power to the faint and to those who have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fail. But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk and not faint.”
“I rely on God’s strength and His promise to renew those who wait on him. My life has been shaped by real life experiences in times of stretching, waiting and trusting God beyond what I can see. Through seasons of responsibility, loss and transition, I have learned that God’s timing is perfect and His promises are sure. Prayer is my refuge when the load is heavy, and each step has deepened my faith and affirmed that my purpose is found in serving others, standing on His word and remaining faithful to the call He has placed on my life.”
Let’s continue to pray for Sis. Gina as she spreads her influence in the church and in the community. Praying that God will provide strength, courage and direction as she continues to do a good work.
