Member of the Month of July Sis. Myoshia Hayter
We are pleased to honor Sis. Myoshia Hayter as Pleasant Grove MB Church’s Member of the Month! Her journey has been extraordinary and unexpected. It demonstrates to us that God’s plan is not always in line with ours, but through our obedience he leads us to accomplish his purpose for our life.
After high school, Sis. Myoshia attended the University of Texas at Austin with her sights set on becoming a nurse. She earned her Batchelor’s degree in Human Development & Family Sciences with a minor in African & African Diaspora Studies. After college, Sis. Myoshia returned to Houston with the intention of continuing her studies to become a registered nurse. God had other plans and began to steer her towards His intended goal. It began during her senior year in Austin, when she began to work as an after-school instructor at one of the local elementary schools. Once she returned home, she started to work in Houston ISD as a Special Education teaching assistant. During this time, she continued to enroll in courses to pursue her desire to become a nurse. She says, “Little did I know, nursing was not the plan for my life at the time. I had to rely on my faith and ask God to guide me into making a decision about my career. After much praying and encouragement, I began my journey as a classroom teacher. I became a kindergarten teacher after 4 years of being a teaching assistant in SPED and a Pre-K teacher. I have served as a mentor, teacher, grade-level chair, and now as a first-grade teacher.” Sis. Myoshia is currently in her 10th year in education. She says, “for me, teaching is more than a profession – it is a calling to shape young minds with patience, creativity, and care not just academically, but emotionally and spiritually.”
As she has faced challenges in her personal and professional life she says,
“I am reminded of the many teachings of both of my pastors, the late Pastor, Dr. C.L. Jackson and our current Pastor, Dr. Sheldon L. Jackson. I am reminded that God will never leave or forsake me. I am reminded of His love for me, and I want to show that same love to my colleagues, students and anyone who I may cross paths with. I want Christ to be seen in my life”. Her mentor is her mother whose unwavering relationship with God “has served as a living example of the power of faith, prayer and perseverance. With all that has been instilled in me through my pastors and mother, I am able to navigate through challenges in my spiritual and professional life.”
The Outreach Ministry deserves a special shoutout for introducing Sis. Myoshia and family to Pleasant Grove. Along with her mother, Sis. Josephine Johnson, sister, Aresha Hayter and brother Willie Hayter, the family have worshipped at Pleasant Grove for several years. We have watched them grow spiritually and professionally over the years. Sis. Myoshia has been involved in church activities all these years. She was a member of the youth and young adult choir, Sunday School and mission group. She also directed our youth and teens in the dance ministry. She continues to worship and serve at this present time.
Sis. Myoshia reiterates, “My spiritual life is my foundation in both my professional and personal life. It fuels my passion for service, strengthens my resilience, and keeps me grounded in love, purpose, and a desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our youth. One of my favorite scriptures is Psalms 23. This scripture has been a constant source of strength and reassurance. Its message— the Lord is my Shepherd—reminds me daily I am never alone in my life because I am a child of God. It assures me to trust God’s guidance and his promises for my life, and with him, I know I can make it through every challenge and season in my life. I am deeply grateful for my entire church family, as many members have played a key role in shaping me into the educator and woman that I am today. I owe all my accomplishments to God, my immediate family, and my church family. I am proud to be a member of Pleasant Grove MBC, and it has truly shaped my life, spiritually and professionally.”
Let’s show Sis. Myoshia some love and support in the comments below and keep her lifted up in our prayers.
