Over the years, God has elevated Deacon Davis to serve in many capacities under the leadership of both the late Dr. C.L. Jackson and our current Pastor, Dr. S.L. Jackson. He currently serves as Chairman of the Trustee Board, one of the Chairmen of the Deacon Board, and President of the Audio and Video Ministry. He is also an active member of the Finance Committee, the Street Ministry, and the MAC DAVe Church Media Group. In his own words, “In 2017, God placed on my heart a goal to train young people and others in the skills and techniques I learned while serving in the Audio and Video Ministry. As a result, I founded a non-profit organization, MAC DAVe Church Media Group. Since its founding, the organization has operated at Pleasant Grove, and several students have gone on to establish successful careers in audio and video-related fields.”
His favorite scripture is I Samuel 10:26: “And Saul also went home to Gibeah: and there went with him a band of men, whose hearts God had touched.” He shares, “To me, this is confirmation that God has selected me to be part of a band of saints that He has personally chosen.” Deacon Davis has also led a distinguished professional life. He served in the U.S. Army from 1971 to 1974, earning the rank of Specialist Five as a communications specialist. After his service, he worked as an electronics technician at NASA’s Johnson Space
Center. He later attended the University of Houston, where he earned a degree in Electronic Technology in 1976.
In 1977, he became the first Black Computer Systems Engineer at the Houston Chronicle, where he led a team that developed an interface system connecting a typesetting machine to a digital computer system—technology that remained in use for years. At the height of his career there, Deacon Davis chose to pursue entrepreneurship. After several years, he returned to NASA, where he advanced from Computer Systems Technician to Supervisor and ultimately to a managerial role. During his time there, he contributed to the Space Station program and worked in the Astronaut Training Office, helping design and build mockups used in the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory (NBL), where astronauts train for missions. He retired from NASA in 2009.
Deacon Davis is the husband of Sis. Linda Davis and the father of Marlon, Aaron, and Corrine. He is the grandfather of Candace, Alisha, Breion, Carlin, Javen, Jarron, Miya, Carlysia, and Isaiah, and the great-grandfather of Mason, Amara, and Alina. As a church family, we have witnessed the growth of his family and the dedication and zeal of Sis. Linda.
Now in retirement, Deacon Davis shares, “I have more time to devote to serving God, mentoring others, supporting non-profit training, and enjoying my hobbies.” He enjoys
working on antique and classic cars and gardening with his wife. Let us continue to pray that God strengthens Deacon Mitchell Davis Jr. as he supports our Pastor, provides leadership, mentors the next generation, and faithfully serves Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
