This month it is our pleasure to highlight Sis. Nina Hodge, whose birthday is in the month of April. We are extremely blessed to share this special time with her. A gracious, kind, loving and generous member of Pleasant Grove MBC. Sis. Nina is the mother of two daughters and grandmother of five granddaughters. She is truly grateful for them, and we have seen them visit Pleasant Grove over the years. They have not only visited but assisted in decorating the cafeteria when we had special functions at the Conti location.
Pleasant Grove has been her church home since she was a child. Sis. Nina says, “My Christian foundation started many years ago. I am truly grateful, for all the years of solid biblical teaching from Pastor, Dr. C.L. Jackson and Pastor, Dr. Sheldon Jackson. Forty-seven years ago, Pastor, Dr. C.L. Jackson started a Sunday School Teacher’s training class. I participated and after training I was assigned to the Intermediated Department. I am now the Intermediate Department Superintendent.”
After the death of Sis. Susie Jefferson, Sis. Nina was promoted to be the President of the Choir. She loves praising God in song and singing with the choir. Sis. Nina says, “They are a great group of Christians, and it gives me joy to be their President.”
Sis. Nina retired in 2019 after 46 years of working as an Accounting Clerk and Accounting Specialist at various companies. She has an Accounting Certificate from Houston Community College.
We have seen Sis Nina’s generosity in her various activities related to the church. Over the years she has provided transportation to members who needed a ride to church. She bakes cakes for the “Fish Fry” and “Prayer Bowl”, organizes the “Repasts” when choir members take their heavenly flight and supports all aspects of the ministry.
Two of her favorite passages of scripture are Lamentations 3:22-23 and Psalm 71:9. Lamentations 3:22-23 reads, “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is Thy Faithfulness.” Psalms 71:9 reads, “Cast me not off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength faileth.” She quotes these passages often for reassurance and confidence in her belief. She says, “I thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for my Christian Spiritual Journey.”
Let’s continue to pray for the health and well-being of Sis. Nina Hodge as she
leads the Choir and sets the standard for love and service.
